It’s hard to believe this grand structure was built in the 3rd century AD — entirely out of stone, without modern tools or machinery. Once home to more than 30,000 spectators, it stands today as one of the largest and best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world, second only to the Colosseum in Rome.
Walking through the massive arches and underground passages, you can almost hear the echoes of history. The arena, the corridors, and the symmetry of the stones are incredibly well preserved — it truly feels like stepping back in time.
What surprised me most was how peaceful the place was. Unlike similar sites in Europe, it wasn’t crowded at all, which made the experience even more special. I could take my time exploring and taking photos without any rush.
If you visit, go during the morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewer people. Bring water if you’re coming in summer — it can get quite hot.
