Solo female traveller - getting to Carthage from Hammamet?

Hi all! Sorry if this is a stupid post, but I'm stuck. I'm a Brit who loves solo travelling and Ancient Roman ruins, and I'm looking for a relatively safe way to get from Hammamet to Carthage? I know I can book a day trip with a tour company, but in my experience (in other…

Who has visited Tunisia as a tourist I’m planning a trip any tips would be appreciated

Go to El Jem, then Kairouan. Sidi Bou Said is very nice and you could visit the Carthage Site. Then Tunis. If you like desert or Star Wars you can go to Douz. Go for a tour in the Sahara. Lots to do.

Its open access and free entry are major draws, offering a glimpse into Byzantine history amidst a pleasant, overgrown landscape. Some note its roadside location, but most appreciate it as an underrated gem for those interested in early Christian heritage.

"Unfortunately this site is not open to the public, please see the sign in the photo. It is at the dive of a main road and about 5 minutes from Carthage Precidence station, which was closed on 6 November 2025.

We had to take a number 347 from Tunis Marine terminal. Please check this part for yourself."

Noor Din Rashid

"It's just sitting there at the side of the road. There is no entry fee, it's completely open at all times day and night.
Great little site"

Dave T

"Blink and you might drive past it but here are the remains of a Byzantine basilica dotted with overgrown grass and a few olive trees. Lovely landscape to have the mosque on the horizon as you explore what’s left of the partially intact columns jutting out of the ground."
