What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the well-preserved ancient theater at Antiphellos, particularly its unique seafront location offering spectacular sunset views. While some found the site smaller than expected, the amazing scenery and sense of calm were consistently praised. It's a highly recommended, easily accessible historical gem.
"The amphitheater in Kaş is one of the town’s best spots! This ancient theater is really well-preserved, and it’s open all the time for anyone to wander in and explore. There are sometimes small festivals there, especially in summer — things like open-air movie nights, concerts, and performances by local or visiting artists. In the evenings, lots of people go to catch the sunset, and sometimes you’ll find street musicians playing, which creates a great atmosphere.
The coolest thing is the view: since the amphitheater faces the sea, you get an amazing panoramic view of the coast and the Greek island of Meis across the water. If you want a really peaceful and special place for sunset, this is where I’d tell you to go. And as a local tip — bring a snack or drink, sit on the ancient stones, and enjoy one of the prettiest sunsets in Kaş!"

"The walk was a little exhausting due to the weather but it is a nice ancient theatre. It was a lot smaller than what I thought but there is amazing scenery and a calmness that washed over me when I sat on the rows.
I would recommend going if you find your way close."

The Unique Seafront Theatre
Built in the 1st century BCE, it could accommodate approximately 4,000 spectators. The absence of a proscenium was a deliberate choice to preserve the sea view, a testament to the aesthetic sensibilities of the time. Today, visitors can sit on the ancient stone seats, imagining the spectacles that once unfolded here, all while enjoying one of the most picturesque settings imaginable.
This theatre is not just a historical relic; it's a vibrant space. In the summer, it often hosts events like open-air movie nights, concerts, and local performances, breathing new life into the ancient structure.
Antiphellos and its Lycian Heritage
The city's Lycian heritage is evident throughout Kaş. Many Lycian tombs are integrated directly into the urban landscape, a unique feature that blends ancient history with modern life. These rock-cut tombs, carved into the cliffs, are a striking reminder of the civilization that once thrived here.
Exploring Antiphellos offers a glimpse into this rich past. The remnants of city walls and the well-preserved theater speak to its former glory. The integration of these ancient sites into the contemporary town of Kaş provides a fascinating juxtaposition of old and new.
Experiencing Antiphellos at Sunset
Visitors often describe a sense of peace and tranquility as they sit on the ancient stones, gazing out at the vast Mediterranean Sea and the silhouette of the Greek island of Meis. It's a moment to connect with history and nature simultaneously.
While sunset is popular, it's generally not overly crowded, especially on weekdays. Bringing a drink or a snack to enjoy while watching the spectacle enhances the experience. Some even suggest trying sunrise for an equally beautiful, perhaps even more serene, experience.
