Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Gazi Mihal Bridge as Edirne's oldest and a significant historical landmark, appreciating its Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. However, some reviews point to a lack of maintenance in its surroundings, with mentions of litter and general neglect detracting from the experience.

"a bridge that needs maintenance around it, I guess, the municipality and national foundations are not interested, its surroundings are garbage, nobody cares"

İsmail Kaan Gümüş

"This bridge, which crosses the Tunca River on the main road leading to Bulgaria at the western exit of Edirne, has undergone numerous repairs throughout history. It is known to have been first built by Michael Palaiologos during the Byzantine period. Under Ottoman rule, it was extensively restored and virtually rebuilt by Gazi Mihal Bey in 1402. The pointed-arched "History Kiosk" (Inscription Kiosk), added by Kemankeş Kara Mustafa Pasha in 1640, enhanced the bridge's architectural richness. Its unique drainage system, designed to drain water leaks, is quite striking. In the 1900s, Sultan Abdülhamid II had the bridge renovated by Italian craftsmen.

Pre-Visit Recommendations:
1. It is the oldest surviving bridge in Edirne.
2. You can easily reach it by private car or public transportation.
3. After walking on the bridge, don't leave without visiting the nearby Gazi Mihal Mosque."

"Gazi Mihal Bridge / Hamidiye Bridge
It was built west of the city, on the main road to Bulgaria, over the Tunca River. Michael Palaiologos had it built during the Byzantine period. In 1402, during the Ottoman period, Gazi Mihal Bey had it repaired, as if it were being rebuilt. In 1640, there is the pointed arch-shaped History Kiosk (Kitaba Kiosk) built by Kemankeş Kara Mustafa Pasha. The drainage system built to drain leaking water from the bridge's body is interesting. In 1900, Abdulhamid II had it rebuilt by Italian craftsmen.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE SEEING
1. It is the oldest of the bridges in Edirne.
2. You can use your private car or public transportation to reach the Gazi Mihal Bridge.
3. After walking across the bridge, visit the Gazi Mihal Mosque.
Bayezid II Bridge
Near the Bayezid Complex. It was built on the Tunca River. It is believed to have been built by Mimar Hayrettin in 1488 by Bayezid II. It is 78 meters wide and has five pointed arches. It is a solid bridge made of cut stone.

TIPS BEFORE SEEING IT
1. One of the longest stone bridges.
2. Its magnificent stonework is impressive.
3. The bridge has both narrow and wide sections. Minor difficulties may arise when passing by vehicle."
