Where can a tourist go birdwatching in Istanbul and around?
Hello, I will be visiting Istanbul at the end of October and wanted to go birdwatching. I am visiting as a tourist and would love to add one or two mornings for birdwatching. Can someone please point me to birdwatching clubs that do free walks or guides I could hire or spots…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gediz Delta is praised for its stunning wildlife, particularly the vast flamingo populations, and its peaceful, car-free trails perfect for biking and walking. However, many visitors are disappointed by the significant litter problem and lack of maintenance, with sparse amenities and unreliable snack services.
"it used to be a wonderful place and the name paradise for this place was the right one! I used to go there frequently and there were few people, it was quiet and cleaner. March 2025 and total disappointment!!! It is now a huge garbage bin for people who visit this place, eat and drink and then leave their garbage there! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the amount of garbage there and you can find anything there!! plastic bottles of water, seeds, cans of beer, wipe towels, clothing items, shopping bags, etc!! Pity really! People who do not care about the nature and municipality who doesn’t clean the area! Shame!"

"This is a beautiful place to see flamingos 🦩 and other birds. However be aware - the closest bus stop is 15 mins walk. It is possible to come from Izmir by bicycle. Many people also come by car (there is no parking per se). While the place is a beautiful there is also nobody taking care of it apparently - no benches, nobody picking up trash, no walking paths.
I fully recommend to go there to see amazing flamingos (beautiful birds ❤️) and fantastic views of the sea, but don’t expect you can chill and have a coffee unless you bring one with yourself. Pity that this beautiful part of Gediz Delta is not taken care of in a better way.
This is for sure a place for you if you are a wild birds photographer."

"Easily accessed by car. A perfect place for kids and adults and their bikes. Once you get there you can rent a bike (for adults) or walk. Kilometers and kilometers of walking or biking trails. There is a little snack shop that is rarely open, but you can bring your own snacks as long as you don’t leave trash behind. We love this place to enjoy a stroll or bike ride in nature without any cars around and no crowds, not to mention the flamingos. Such a special place."
