What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Hoşkadem Mosque for its historical significance as the oldest mosque in Ceyhan and its beautiful Mamluk architecture. Many find the atmosphere peaceful and suitable for prayer, appreciating its simplicity. Some note it's a must-see for its historical value.
"The Hoşkadem Mosque, which holds the title of the oldest mosque in the district, is also known as the Great Mosque by the locals.
According to the inscription on the northern gate, Kozan Hoşkadem Mosque was built in 1448 by Emir Abdullah Hoşkadem, the ruler of the Turkish Mamluk State established in Egypt, Es Sultan El Meliki Zahir Seyfüddin Çakmak Ümerası. Since Kozan was under Mamluk rule at that time, the work is called a Mamluk historical work. When the work is examined, it will be seen that it is an architecturally Mamluk structure. Although the work was built on behalf of the Mamluk State, Bozoklu and Yüreğirli Turkmen tribes lived in the region at that time."
