What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kadifekale offers breathtaking panoramic views of Izmir and a glimpse into its historical past, with impressive Byzantine cisterns. However, visitors consistently note its neglected state, citing significant litter, graffiti, and overgrown areas, which detract from its potential. Despite the upkeep issues, the historical ambiance and stunning vistas make it a worthwhile visit for many, especially if accessed via Uber or bus.
"The place itself is great.
It needs a massive tidy up
Rubbish everywhere.
The castle walls on top have rubbish.
There is dry long grass ,fire hazzard.
The cistern has rubbish inside it .
All needs a major clean thru.
I love the antiquity of it and it's a shame the local authority don't get this organized."

"Place could have been preserved better.
It is pretty historic but it is very neglected. There is graffiti everywhere, garbage and dilapidated buildings nearby. Not to mention that you have to navigate narrow streets to get up there.
If you have enough time to spare, visit this place, otherwise you can skip."

"Free of entrance. However, I would be willing to pay the ticket to come visiting this castle if the fee help maintain or clean up this place. A lot of broken bottles and rubbish here 😢 I don't know why people litter at such an important place. We took Uber up here because it's not easy at all to walk up the hill, not to mention to get lost if you don't know Turkish. However, it's easy to walk along the stairs and the road following the Google map. You can see the walls in ruins and also the water storage in Byzantine period, similar to the one in the city of Izmir. I notice on the map a museum is right by the castle. But it doesn't seem open or existing anyone. Overall, Kadifekale is very nice to visit and quite potential if this place can be maintained well and advised properly for tourists. 👍✅🎉"
