Reviews Summary

Reviews for Kervansaray Turkish Bath are highly divided. While some guests praise the excellent value, friendly staff, and rejuvenating treatments like massages and foam baths, others report significant issues with cleanliness, a rushed atmosphere, and a lack of relaxation. The experience can vary greatly, making it a gamble for some visitors.

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS “TURKISH BATH” EXPERIENCE.

I have visited Turkey many times and we always treat ourselves to a turkish bath. We were taken here this time around and it has honestly put me off.

Not a relaxing atmosphere what so ever. You walk into what feels like a run down abandoned building, taken into a room to discuss treatments/ offers, we chose to just stick to the basic treatment as we already didnt feel comfortable at this point. The room we were first taken into was very cold and full of creepy old statues. Staff are very rude not much interaction just pointing to where to go.

First step is changing room, dirty. And we were given towels that stank of damp and had holes all over. We were quickly taken to the sauna, which had big windows so you can see everything inside and out. And whilst trying to “relax” in the sauna we could just see people on there phones playing loud music whilst talking and laughing.

We were then taken to a foot salt area. This made me feel like I was in a cat litter tray. It was filthy you can just see/ feel all the dirt in there- just made you feel disgusting.

We were then taken into the “steam room”. We walked in it was freezing cold and no steam to be seen, just a strong menthol scent that burnt your eyes. The room was covered in mould and just very unsettling. We left the “steam” room almost immediately.

We were then taken into the waiting room where it was bright lights, children's toys scattered around and once again freezing cold. Nothing relaxing about it. We were brought over a poor excuse of Turkish tea. It was warm squash in a plastic disposable cup. We waited in there for about 10/15 minutes then were finally taken into the baths.

The actual bath room was ok. Doors were left wide open during the baths, people just walking in and out, no relaxing music, water was lukewarm.

We are then taken into get a massage. If I can even call it that, it was more of a back tickle, it was very brief, not thorough and slightly uncomfortable! As soon as you walk in the woman took of my bikini top whilst I was still standing, then just tells me to lay down. Rubs my back and legs just lightly and done! Got up feeling greasy, dirty and very eager to leave!

Safe to say I would not recommend this experience to anyone and you couldn’t pay me to return. Please don’t waste your money on this place- it’s just disgusting and puts a bad name on Turkish Baths."

"Had an amazing time. Very friendly staff. Had a package of jacuzzi, mud bath, sauna, steam, skin peel and foam and a massage. Thoroughly enjoyed everything. Bit confused at the poor reviews. The value for money was incredible."

Finlay Gabbert

"The massage was great. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was crap! Women are expected to receive treatments with men present. They try to upgrade you and I wouldn’t mind but the guy wasn’t very nice, I might have fallen for it if he was a nice person. Treatments were not available and we were offered no alternative. Nor did we receive all the treatments promised! They keep you waiting for ages with no communication. Stay clear of this place!! Not recommended!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Turkish Bath Experience: What to Expect

The traditional Turkish bath, or hamam, is a centuries-old ritual focused on cleansing and relaxation. At Kervansaray Turkish Bath, this typically involves a multi-step process. You'll usually start by changing into a towel and then proceed to a sauna or steam room to open your pores. This is followed by the kese, a vigorous exfoliation using a special mitt to remove dead skin cells. TikTokReddit After the scrub, you'll experience a luxurious foam massage, where masseurs create a cloud of soap bubbles to cleanse and relax your body. TikTok

While many visitors find this process incredibly refreshing and a highlight of their trip, some reviews point to inconsistencies. Concerns have been raised about the cleanliness of facilities, the quality of towels, and the overall atmosphere not being as tranquil as expected. Reddit Some guests have also noted that the massage portion can feel rushed or superficial. Reddit It's worth noting that some Kervansaray locations are part of hotels, offering a more resort-like ambiance with pools and other amenities. TikTok

For those seeking the authentic hamam experience, it's advisable to research the specific Kervansaray location you plan to visit and read recent reviews. Consider opting for a basic package first to gauge the service and environment before committing to more extensive treatments. Reddit+1 Remember that the Turkish bath is not just about physical cleansing but also a cultural immersion, offering a glimpse into a time-honored tradition. TikTok

Navigating Reviews: Mixed Experiences at Kervansaray

Reviews for Kervansaray Turkish Bath are notably polarized, creating a challenge for potential visitors. On one hand, many guests report having an 'amazing time' with 'very friendly staff' and incredible 'value for money.' Reddit They highlight the effectiveness of the massage, the enjoyable foam bath, and the overall positive experience, sometimes expressing confusion over negative feedback. Reddit

Conversely, a significant number of reviews express strong dissatisfaction. Common complaints include the place feeling 'dirty,' 'rushed,' and 'not relaxing.' Reddit+1 Specific issues raised are cold rooms, damp and holey towels, a lack of steam in the steam room, and even mould. Reddit Some visitors felt pressured into upgrades that they didn't feel were worth the cost, and experienced long waits with poor communication. Reddit+1 The location has also been described by some as being in a 'slum.' Reddit

This disparity suggests that the quality of experience might vary greatly between different Kervansaray branches or even on different days. It's crucial to weigh these contrasting opinions when planning your visit. If you decide to go, managing expectations and perhaps starting with a less comprehensive package might be a prudent approach. Reddit+1
