"Livera (Doubera, today known as Yazlık) Castle is situated 350 meters above the Meryemana Stream (Panagia) on a rocky outcrop overlooking the entrance to the village of the same name and the road. Built of rough, square-shaped stones, the castle's walls, 2.10 meters thick at the base, drop to 1.50 meters at the top. A small section of the castle remains today, and from the remaining fragments, it is estimated to have been 10 meters high. The castle was built primarily to monitor the Sümela and Maçka valleys when Seljuk raids began to arrive from the south, most likely before 1364 AD."
