Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Patara Ancient City's impressive Roman ruins and its stunning adjacent beach, calling it a 'marvel' for history lovers. While some find the entrance fee a bit high compared to nearby sites, most agree the well-preserved structures and the combined access to the beautiful Patara Beach make it a worthwhile pilgrimage. A few note concerns about the condition of some walkways and the cost, but the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive.

"Patara was the birthplace and hometown of the greatest Christian saint Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra, also known as Santa Klaus. Its a shame that access to Patara’s Basilica (was the biggest in Lycia) is closed within the park. One cant even enter it bcs of heavy vegetation overgrowth. Though you can visit the ruins of the City Church of Patara. Its a great blessing and privilege for Orthodox Christian as me to walk the footsteps of Saint Nicholas! Highly recommended! I am attaching the pictures of Patara’s City Church in first row. My foremost goal in visiting Patara was to pay homage to this saint. PS In summer - early autumn I recommend coming here in the evening before closure, as its very hot and humid in daytime, nearly unbearable to walk and you need to walk a lot here to see the site"

"Wonderful ancient city. Deduct 1* for combining the beach and historical site.

The good thing is that most visitors go directly to the beach and you can visit the site in relative peace at your own pace"

"1 star for the management of this place.

The city is beautiful, but you are left completely to yourself to explore.

No welcome point. Only a cafe and toilets. Nobody to explain you anything, give you a map of the site.
There is an audio guide app but what if you don't have internet?

After the main site (parliament, baths and theatre) without the audio guide you don't even know there are other parts to visit. No signs or indications.

In the audio guide it is 'highly recommended' to take the left path to arrive to lighthouse, wear house and temple. Yet they don't say it is a half hour walk in the scorching sun with NO signs of where to go.
(June, 10 am, 33 degrees and no shade).
We managed to arrived to the warehouse and yet still not signs for lighthouse after walking 30 minutes.
No signs, no trees, no benches to rest.
Not to mention the spiky plants all over which made the walk only more difficult and unpleasent (don't have the money to trim a few bushes?)

Seriously ridiculous.
And we payed 15€ each for this kind of service.
Turkey, you can do better!"
