"The madrasa is part of the Gedik Ahmet Pasha Complex, one of the most important Ottoman constructions in Afyonkarahisar. The construction of this complex, consisting of a mosque, a madrasa, a tabhane, a hamam, a school for children and an immaret, began in 1472, during the reign of the Grand Vizier of Anatolia, Gedik Ahmet Pasha.

The madrasa, located southwest of the Gedik Ahmet Pasha Mosque, was built a little later, in 1481. It consists of 26 domes and has a large courtyard located in the east-west direction. The passages between the domes form Turkish triangles. The original building has 7 rooms on both sides, and on the east - a dersane and a summer ivan. The colonnades are covered with flat domes without kasn. The courtyard is entered through a portal on the north facade. Inside the entrance there is a pink marble entrance door with an arched lintel. During the last renovation, the colonnades were covered with glass.

It is known that since the beginning of its activity, the madrasah taught religious and humanities at a high level. The daily salary paid to the madrasah teachers was quite high and amounted to 50 shares. Students were paid 12 shares.

From the moment of its construction to the present day, the building has been renovated several times.

During the First World War, it was used as a prisoner of war camp, and in 1924, after the closure of the madrasah, it was left unattended. In 1938-48, it acquired its modern appearance thanks to repairs carried out by the General Directorate of Funds. In 1965, the General Directorate of Funds carried out another restoration. After that date, the building was used as a museum of Turkish Islamic works and also functioned as an arts center for a while. In 2010, the General Directorate of Foundations transferred the madrasa to the Afyonkarahisar Municipality, where it was carefully restored and given a modern look.

Today, the madrasa, in accordance with its historical mission, hosts religious and scientific events and revives traditional Turkish Islamic arts."
