The Market is divided into 2 blocks because the land between the blocks from someone else, so during the development phase, Kampala city council authority who had got a loan from the African development Bank wanted to buy him off so as to develop one mega block of a modern market which could hold a bigger capacity. To their dismay, He wanted twice the value of their valuation of the land. The then Executive director was a hard negotiator and wouldn't budge. That's how the market ended up with 2 Stand alone blocks with space in-between.
These blocks specialize in specific businesses. South Wing Block contains majorly fresh vegetables, food stuffs, charcoal, several retail and wholesale shops for groceries on first floor.
Ground floor has the famous wandegeya fried chicken. Second floor has clothing, tailoring businesses, cosmetics products, herbal products. The third floor is majorly offices, shops.
