What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Kyiv History Museum to be a compact yet informative space, particularly appreciating its temporary exhibitions and the poignant display dedicated to Liubov Panchenko. The museum is housed in a beautiful old building, and tickets are quite affordable. However, some guests have experienced challenges with staff communication and a perceived lack of engagement with historical inquiries, potentially due to language barriers.
"This place shows various temporary exhibitions on 4 floors. The Avantgarde exhibition was small and not much inspiring. However, the exhibition on the life and work of the designer and painter Liubov Panchenko made my day and can be highly recommended. It is an exemplary example how life circumstances influence your work. Her life ended in Butcha 2022. No comments necessary."

"I went in looking for someone simply to ask where I could buy tickets, two people approached me, sorry but especially this woman who just wouldn’t stop talking, it was annoying. Have these people ever considered that in a museum in one of the world-famous cities, there might actually be tourists who don’t speak Ukrainian? This female staff who talked endlessly and at way too fast a pace, without letting me interrupt, just wasted my time. She didn’t even bother to realize that my broken Russian might make understanding Ukrainian even more impossible. It felt more like she was monotonously reciting a memorized script, completely ignoring what her conversation partner actually wanted at that moment. I thought, just leave me alone and show me where I can buy the tickets finally.. I didn’t ask for a presentation. Also, I wish the museum would live up to its name a bit more. I asked about the older history of the city, but it seemed like the language barrier was less the problem than their actual willingness to engage with the visitor."

"Interesting mix of Kyiv-Rus display of objects plus collections from later centuries too, somewhat haphazardly laid out, and a place that holds exhibitions of important artists."
