Reviews Summary

Visitors frequently praise the Church of St. Paraskeva-Pyatnytsia for its profound spiritual atmosphere and the breathtaking beauty of its ancient iconostasis. Its historical significance, evident in its defensive architecture, is also a major draw. While generally well-regarded, some may find the exterior architecture less ornate than other Lviv churches.

"One of my favorite places in Lviv"

Orest Schur

"The Church of St. Paraskeva of P'yatnytsia or P'yatnytsia Church is a functioning Orthodox defensive church at the foot of Castle Hill. The church is located in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Lviv at the current Bohdana Khmelnytskyi Street, 77. The church is one of the oldest religious buildings in the city, its construction is attributed to the princely period of the late 13th century. It was significantly rebuilt in 1623. The church has a defensive character - its walls are thick, and the windows are small, as evidenced by the loopholes in the upper floors of the tower. In 1885, a major renovation of the entire building was carried out. A historical and architectural monument."

Олексій Пузир

"Not far from the northern slope of Zamkova Hill, in the "Pidzamche" area, is one of the oldest churches in Lviv - the Church of St. Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. On the site of the current church, at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, there was a stone church. The building that has survived to this day was erected in the 1640s on the basis of the remains of a stone church destroyed by fire in 1623. The church, built in the middle of the 17th century, was repeatedly repaired and rebuilt, but, nevertheless, the temple has survived to this day, preserving its main architectural features. If the external appearance of the church created the feeling of a severe structure, then the interior of the temple is devoid of these features. In terms of elegance and luxury of the interior design, the temple was considered the most majestic of all the churches in the suburbs."
