What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Moreeb Dune offers a thrilling desert adventure, especially during the Liwa Festival with its exciting motorsport events and vibrant atmosphere. Visitors enjoy the majestic dunes, camping opportunities, and the unique energy of the festival. However, the intense noise and crowds during the festival can be a drawback for some, particularly families with young children, and a 4x4 vehicle is essential for exploring the dunes.
"My family and I spent a night camping here and it was nothing short of magical. From thrilling sand bashing on the majestic dunes to a cozy barbecue under the stars, it was an adventure packed with excitement and laughter.
The place truly comes alive in the evening—food stalls everywhere, offering a variety of delicious treats, and a spectacular fireworks show that lit up the desert sky. Just a heads-up: it gets really cold at night, so definitely bring a hoodie and ear covers—not just for the chill, but also because the place stays noisy all night with engines roaring and music playing nonstop.
Despite the noise, the energy and vibe were incredible. If you’re into off-roading, camping, or just want a unique desert escape with family, Liwa Moreeb Dune is a must-visit. Can’t wait to go back again next season!"

"Very beautiful place for camping ⛺️, I have enjoyed visiting Liwa Village and lots of racing competitions and other activities for friends, family and kids
Easy to rent a camp there via online, the only thing you cannot sleep nicely because of cars and bikes noise until early morning
You must have 4x4 so you can enjoy the dunes.
Many restaurants, facilities and there are a small market where you do some shopping for basic needs mainly for camping.
Public toilets and showers are available, very cold weather it goes below 20, you need to have winter clothes."

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
Moreeb Dune is about a 3-hour drive from Abu Dhabi. Renting a car is the most convenient option if you have a license. Taxis are unlikely to go that far, and public transport is limited. Consider arranging a lift with locals or joining a guided tour.
It's strongly advised against driving a sedan on the dunes or even on softer sand areas. You'll likely get stuck. Stick to paved roads or consider a 4x4 for any off-road exploration.
No, it's not recommended to go into the desert alone, especially in Liwa. Always tag along with someone or have a support vehicle in case of any trouble.
The conditions vary greatly. The main dune can be driven up by experienced 4x4 drivers, but surrounding areas can be soft sand. It's best to start in easier areas if you're new to dune driving.
While light showers might not be an issue, strong winds can create challenging driving conditions and reduce visibility. It's best to check the weather forecast and err on the side of caution.

🎫 🧭 Onsite Experience
Moreeb Dune is famous for dune bashing, sandboarding, and off-road racing during the Liwa Festival. You can also enjoy camping, food stalls, fireworks, and cultural displays.
The festival can be very loud and chaotic, which might be overwhelming for young children. While there are some family-friendly aspects, it's primarily geared towards motorsport enthusiasts. Consider visiting during the off-season for a calmer experience.
For an adrenaline rush, try dune bashing with an experienced driver or sandboarding. For a more relaxed experience, enjoy the views, camp, or explore the festival village.
The festival attracts large crowds, especially on peak days. Expect a lot of people and vehicles, creating a vibrant but busy atmosphere.
Light, breathable clothing for the day is recommended. However, bring warm layers for the evening and night as temperatures drop significantly. Comfortable shoes are a must for walking on sand.
🍽️ 🍽️ Food & Dining
During the Liwa Festival, numerous food stalls and trucks offer a variety of treats. You can also bring your own food for camping.
You'll find a range of local and international fast food options, snacks, and beverages. Be aware that food prices can be on the higher side during the festival.
If you're camping, you can usually cook your own food. Check specific regulations regarding open fires or cooking equipment during the festival.
The Moreeb Dune is in a remote desert area. While there are food stalls during the festival, for more formal dining, you'd need to head to Liwa town or back towards Abu Dhabi.
With the variety of food trucks, you might find some options, but it's not guaranteed. It's best to inquire at the stalls or bring your own snacks if you have specific dietary needs.
📸 📸 Photography
Golden hour, just after sunrise and before sunset, offers the most dramatic lighting for capturing the dunes' golden hues.
A wide-angle lens is great for capturing the vastness of the dunes. A telephoto lens can be useful for capturing action shots during the festival. Don't forget a tripod for stable shots in low light.
The sheer scale of the dune itself is a primary subject. During the festival, the roaring vehicles, fireworks, and the energetic crowds provide dynamic photo opportunities.
Use a protective camera bag and consider a lens hood. Avoid changing lenses in dusty conditions. A blower brush can help remove sand from your gear.
Drone regulations can be strict in the UAE. It's essential to check the latest rules and obtain any necessary permits before flying a drone in the area.
