What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Flag Island is praised as a peaceful, well-maintained destination with a stunning, illuminated flagpole and pleasant waterfront walks. Visitors appreciate the free entry, ample parking, and the cultural offerings like 1971 – Design Space and the amphitheater. While it's a great spot for relaxation and photography, it lacks dedicated activities for very young children.
"Visited The Flag Island with my family on a Saturday around 8 PM. There was ample free parking available right outside, which made the visit super convenient. The first thing that catches your eye is the massive 123-meter flagpole — once the 7th tallest in the world! It’s not just a flag, it’s a proud symbol of the UAE’s unity, beautifully illuminated with lights that represent all seven emirates. The attention to design and detail is impressive — from the lights around the circle to the ones leading up the pathway.
Although it was a hot evening (around 40°C!), the breeze made it manageable for a walk. The island was quiet, with just a few people jogging or strolling. There’s a running track near the entrance — looks like a great spot for an early morning run when the weather’s nicer.
We explored the area around 1971 – Design Space, which is modern and thoughtfully designed, though we didn’t catch an exhibition this time. Took a relaxing walk, snapped some selfies with the flag, and enjoyed the peaceful vibe.
Jones the Grocer was a highlight — a cozy café with outdoor seating. Loved the idea of their walk-in cheese room and specialty items. Would definitely come back here for a relaxing brunch or dinner.
The amphitheatre is another beautiful feature — seats 1000 people and has incredible views over the city. I can only imagine how lively it must be during National Day or Flag Day events!
Note: There weren’t any dedicated kids’ activities, so it’s more suited for adults or families with older kids. Would be an amazing place to visit again in winter, when you can really enjoy the outdoors comfortably.
Overall, The Flag Island is a beautiful blend of culture, leisure, and design. Whether you’re into architecture, photography, food, or just want a calm place to walk and unwind — it’s worth a visit."

"A Hidden Gem in the UAE – Flag Island, Sharjah
Flag Island in Sharjah is one of the most underrated places in the UAE. It offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for families, friends, or solo visitors. The place is very calm, clean, and well-maintained, with an amazing view of the UAE flag standing tall.
One of the best things about this place is the beautiful lake view, which makes it a must-visit for nature lovers. When I visited, there were very few people around, and parking was easily available. It’s surprising that this place is not more crowded because it truly deserves more visitors.
Entry to Flag Island is free, and there are plenty of great spots for photography. You can also enjoy the view of a nearby mosque and traditional buildings, adding to the charm of the place. Overall, it’s a wonderful location to relax, take pictures, and enjoy the beauty of Sharjah. Highly recommended!"
