What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Alexandra Park is appreciated for its pleasant gardens and a popular, modern children's play area, making it a good spot for families and dog walkers. However, some visitors note issues with litter around the lake and a scarcity of benches, suggesting areas for improvement in maintenance and amenities.
"I used to play around this park when I was a child it hasn't changed much apart from the river declining. I would like to see the peace fence which is allocated in the middle be dismantled for a brighter future between neighbouring communities."
michael mccracken
"Very well kept gardens. So pleasant to stroll around this quiet park. The newly built children's play area has become very popular and looks great. Seems to be a lot of families, and more mature people that frequent the place, specially walking their dogs. The small lake with it's white swans could do with a bit of a clean up, but it's lovely just the same, it's nice to have a pond like this in a nice park."
Paul Ó Conchúir
"Unhappy with overall state of the park especially around the lake.
A lot of rubbish including empty beer cans and general waste.
Alsratson the lake and swimming and eating. Frightening to see"

The Significance of the Peace Fence
The presence of the fence within a public park highlights the complex history of Belfast and how even recreational spaces can hold deep societal meaning. It's a feature that prompts contemplation about community relations and the ongoing efforts towards reconciliation.
Family Fun and Relaxation
Beyond the playground, the park's well-kept gardens provide a tranquil environment for all visitors, including families. It's a pleasant place for a stroll, a picnic, or simply to unwind. The presence of families and dog walkers suggests a community-oriented atmosphere, making it a welcoming space for a relaxed day out.
Park Maintenance and Visitor Experience
Another point raised by visitors is the limited availability of benches throughout the park. This can impact the comfort of those wishing to sit and relax for extended periods, especially if they are not utilizing the children's play area. Bringing a picnic blanket is often suggested as a practical solution to this issue. Despite these concerns, many still find the park to be a good place to visit, especially for dog walking and enjoying quieter moments away from busier city parks.
