What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests are drawn to The Alverton Hotel's stunning historic architecture and beautiful gardens, often praising the friendly staff and convenient location. However, some visitors have experienced significant issues with noise from external generators, accessibility challenges due to the building's age, and inconsistent food quality, particularly at breakfast.
"The hotel is beautiful and the staff are fantastic. The breakfast was delicious. Unfortunately our rooms had two huge generators attached to the outside wall and they started up very loudly every hour, so no sleep for a 4 hour drive the next day. Enjoy the gorgeous hotel, but top tip..just don't stay in rooms 16 and 17!"

"I go to Truro for an annual social event and this Hotel is always my first choice.
Rooms and service excellent over all my stays. The hotel is in a great location with great landscaping and is definitely a treat to stay there.
My only thing I would mention is due to the character of the building, there are many stairs, so do make arrangements with the hotel if you have walking difficulties."

"We recently had an amazing week long holiday in Cornwall and loved everything - except the food at the Alverton.
Dinner on the first night included undercooked chips and rubbery kale. Breakfast would have been fine for a Travelodge and we pined for breakfast at Driftwood.
The location is amazing with easy access to the whole of Cornwall. Our room in the Courtyard was spacious and very comfortable with a great bathroom. The staff were a pleasure- just need new chefs."

Understanding the Historic Building
The building's age means you'll find beautiful original features, but also potential quirks. Some guests have reported issues like windows not closing properly or feeling mattress springs, which can detract from the experience. It's worth noting that some rooms might be located near external generators, which can cause noise disturbances. If you are a light sleeper, it's wise to inquire about the location of your room when booking.
Despite these potential drawbacks, the grandeur of the architecture is a significant draw. The hotel offers a sense of stepping back in time, with elegant common areas and a unique atmosphere that many guests find appealing.
Dining Experiences at The Alverton
Evening meals have garnered more positive comments from some guests, with descriptions of 'absolutely amazing' food. However, this is not a universal sentiment, as others have reported issues like undercooked food. If you're a foodie, you might want to consider exploring the diverse dining scene in nearby Truro, which offers a wider range of culinary options.
For those with dietary requirements, such as gluten intolerance, it's essential to confirm availability in advance. There have been instances where promised gluten-free options, like bread and granola, were unavailable. Additionally, guests should be aware that breakfast times may require booking a specific slot, and there can be a wait for food to be served.
