What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the AO Arena for its electric atmosphere and convenient location connected to Victoria Station. While staff are helpful and entry can be swift, many highlight the extremely high prices for food and drinks, and the long queues for basic refreshments like water. Safety concerns regarding pre-event queuing have also been raised.
"Had a brilliant night watching Sean Paul and Ashanti. The atmosphere was electric. The DJ was so good and had the crowd warmed up before the acts came on. It was quick to get into the arena, and parking was much cheaper than parking in the other car parks outside. It cost £12 at the arena and a short lift ride to the arena floor. Staff were efficient directing people to their seats. Toilets were clean and tidy, but the one criticism was the prices of the drinks. Large Sprite was £6.80 and pints were £9.25... absolutely disgusting and should not be allowed. Understandably, following the bombing there, you can't take anything inside, so they hold you to ransom buying food and drinks."

"My daughter and I recently attended Taemin's last European tour date at the AO Arena, and it was magnificent - the venue, the show, the evening.
To be honest, I'm not sure if the quality of the show elevated the nature of the arena. Either way, it was a lovely setting. Worth mentioning is it's situated within the Victoria Station complex. This made it so easily accessible by train and tram services from Greater Manchester and beyond. It's also close to the city center, which made further exploration (for food) an added bonus.
We always felt safe in the area, and there were plenty of security in their MIB attire. But the concert itself, that was a memorable event. Taemin's performance was captivating, showcasing his exceptional artistry and stage presence. The arena's acoustics and seating arrangements did help for sure. It felt bigger than it was, if that makes sense.
Overall, the combination of a convenient location and a fantastic performance made for an unforgettable evening. We'll definitely be back - even if it means watching KSI box Logan Paul again 😏🙄."

"My experience was very positive. Plenty of staff available, safe and swift entry, and plenty of bars available with fast service. The AI ’Frictionless’ bar was a bit strange and prices didn’t seem to be advertised, just to feed that back. I’d highly recommend a concert here."

Bringing an empty water bottle might be a good idea if allowed, to refill and save on purchasing multiple drinks. 💰 Budget Travelers
The biggest budget consideration inside the arena will be food and drinks. Prices are notably high, so consider eating a substantial meal before you arrive. Getting Around: Parking & Public Transport
However, the arena's prime location within the Victoria Station complex makes public transport the star. This direct connection means seamless travel via train and tram from all over Greater Manchester and beyond. This is often the least stressful option, avoiding road closures and parking hassles, especially after a major event concludes.
When leaving, while the arena exit is generally efficient, roads can become congested. Planning your departure, whether by pre-booked taxi or knowing your public transport connections, can save time and frustration.
Inside the Arena: Food, Drink & Comfort
While the arena is generally kept at a comfortable temperature, with good air conditioning reported even on hot days, the lack of free tap water is a common complaint. This can result in lengthy queues for small, purchased bottles of water, which is a significant inconvenience for many.
Despite these criticisms, the staff are consistently praised for their friendliness and efficiency. They play a crucial role in guiding attendees, managing queues, and ensuring a positive experience within the venue.
Navigating Queues and Entry
However, there are strategies that can help. For those with seated tickets, inquiring about or seeking out the Trinity Tunnel entrance has been noted as a way to gain access much faster than other entry points. Arriving significantly earlier than the event start time is also a common recommendation to mitigate the impact of long queues.
Once inside, the entry process is generally described as safe and swift, with plenty of staff available to assist. The arena's layout and the efforts of the staff contribute to a smoother experience once past the initial security checks.
