What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Appleby Station for its well-maintained vintage character and its role on the scenic Settle-Carlisle Line. The picturesque village, with its castle and Eden Valley surroundings, is also a significant draw. While most experiences are positive, a few mention that some locals can be less friendly.
"This was a lovely station to change at during rail replacements buses to Carlisle, maintaining its vintage character! Station building is well kept and the bridge connects the platforms well, these are appropriately sized for the trains too."

"A beautiful village set in the Eden Valley, on both sides of the River Eden, close to the A66.
Very picturesque, with a mix of small shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés, and the infamous Carlisle-Settle Railway passes through Appleby Station. Large car park available in the village. Limited parking available at the station itself £2 for the whole day. Decorated in the Carlisle-Settle colour scheme of red and cream, with the beautiful red stone buildings, you'll just love that architecture. Many chater trains pass through Appleby, but at present, for many, this is the destination station. There are fabulous waiting rooms on both platforms, a lovely ticket office, a shop (snacks and drinks only), super clean toilets, and a pop-up souvenir shop on charter days.
The staff and volunteers were super helpful and cheerful even during our rather wet visit."
