What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Arenig Fawr for its stunning views and peaceful atmosphere, noting it's less crowded than other Snowdonia peaks. The WWII memorial is a touching highlight. Some find certain paths tricky to navigate, especially in poor weather, and appreciate the remote, wild nature of the mountain.
"Tremendous walk and despite the height and local profile, we didn’t see many people at all. The views at the top are fantastic and the memorial to the fallen American pilots is touching. One of the paths is well defined and clear while the other takes you across walls, fences and bogs - and yet is clearly a defined path. Plenty of parking around the base of the mountain in various locations but no formal car park or facilities - this one is quite remote despite its size."

"Fantastic walk. We were 3 hours up and two hours down but we stopped for sandwiches and plenty of rests on the way up. The views are stunning. We only saw about 6 other people and had the summit all to ourselves. This was our favourite walk of the trip. Plenty of roadside parking.
The trickiest bit was where you have to cross two fences as there are no way markers. Keep a look out for signs of a continuing path when you follow the fence. You can make your own way up of course but some very uneven and dense bracken in places.
Worth the effort at the end. Gorgeous reservoir and bothy too..."

"Superb walk that gets steep near the summit. Not as crowded as other North Wales walking attractions. On a good day the views are spectacular. A memorial to the American air crew who died during the Second World War has been refurbished and is a poignant reminder of the real cost of wars. Moderate hike and allow about 5 hours up and down."
