What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ashtead Park is praised as a charming, rustic gem offering a peaceful retreat with serene lakes and woodland walks. Visitors enjoy bird watching and feeding the ducks, though the park's muddy paths and lack of accessibility features are noted drawbacks. The adjacent garden centre provides a convenient spot for refreshments.
"Ashtead Park is a charming and rustic gem located with a convenient small car park at the entrance on Epsom Road. It features several small lakes, which add to its serene ambiance. Fishing is permitted with a proper license, making it a pleasant spot for angling enthusiasts. It is also a lovely place for bird watching. Not that I am expert but aside from ducks I have seen at least 8 species of birds. Don't ask me to name them. 🤫
The park offers walking paths that wind around the lakes, perfect for a leisurely stroll or taking the dog out for a refreshing walk. However, visitors should be mindful that the paths can become muddy and slippery, especially after rain, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
While Ashtead Park boasts a few benches scattered around for rest stops and contemplation, it does lack a playground, which might disappoint families with young children. Additionally, due to the uneven and often muddy terrain, it is unfortunately not well-suited for wheelchair users. This is a notable drawback that could be addressed by Epsom and Ewell Council to improve accessibility for all visitors.
Overall, Ashtead Park is a delightful spot for nature lovers seeking a peaceful retreat. With some accessibility enhancements, it has the potential to become an even more inclusive community treasure."

On occasion we have found litter but overall a lovely place to go"

Nature's Embrace: The Park Experience
The walking paths wind around the small lakes, offering lovely views and opportunities for bird watching. While the park is beautiful, it's important to note that the terrain can become quite muddy and slippery, especially after rainfall. This means that while it's a delightful place for those prepared with appropriate footwear, it's not the most accessible for wheelchair users or those with mobility challenges.
Despite the lack of a playground, the simple pleasure of feeding the ducks and geese is a highlight for many, adding a touch of interactive fun to the natural serenity. The park's charm lies in its rustic, unmanicured beauty, offering a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle.
Beyond the Park: Ashtead Park Garden Centre
The garden centre itself is a destination for plant enthusiasts and those looking for gardening supplies. It also occasionally hosts events, such as Christmas fairs, which can add a festive dimension to your visit if timed correctly. The garden centre has also undergone some improvements, including fencing installations, ensuring a well-maintained environment for shoppers and visitors.
Combining a visit to the park with a stop at the garden centre provides a well-rounded experience, offering both natural beauty and local amenities. It's a testament to how these spaces can complement each other, serving different but equally valuable needs for the community.
