What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Balmedie Country Park is widely praised for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its vast sand dunes and long, golden beach, offering a sense of wildness and space. Visitors enjoy the biodiversity and the opportunities for walking and family fun. However, the condition of the public toilets is a recurring negative point, detracting from an otherwise lovely experience.
"Lovely, nice open and scenic country park with plenty of sand dunes, flowers, and other wildlife. We were really impressed with the biodiversity that this park is home to. There’s a small tuck shop, but it’s only open on weekends, which is fair enough because it’s staffed by volunteers.
The only thing that lets this place down in my mind, is the toilets. They’re really really grim. The cubicles didn’t lock properly; there was running water, but no soap; while there was technically toilet paper, it hadn’t been fed through the dispenser, so it was inaccessible; there was blood on the floor (no sanitary bins provided) ; the toilet button needed to be held down for 30 seconds to flush properly. It’s a real shame because the park itself was lovely!"

"Fine golden sand. Beautiful dunes. Elegant wind turbines gently turning in the wind. Avert your eyes from the adjacent golf course."

"Fantasticly Huge, vast sand dunes all leading to a wonderfully beautiful long sandy beach, add in sunshine and you have a venue well worth a visit"

Many find the experience of walking through these sandy expanses incredibly therapeutic.
For photographers, the textures and shapes of the sand dunes, especially during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset, provide incredible opportunities. The interplay of light and shadow across the undulating surfaces creates dramatic and beautiful imagery.
