Reviews Summary

BedZED is recognized as a pioneering eco-village with innovative sustainability features like its iconic wind cowls and communal gardens. While some visitors praise its radical design and community spirit, others have noted challenges with temperature regulation and the unique aesthetic. It's a living community, offering a glimpse into experimental eco-living.

"Award winning, pioneering and radical environmentally friendly “low-rise” development ( 2002) driven by environmental design theory and built on a disused waste treatment farm.
Mainly residential focused, debuting trail-blazing innovative sustainability features including the signature rotating bright “wind cowls” and recoverable on-site renewable energy.
A communal centre, garden, allotment and meadows abut the Beddington Farmlands, recognised as a significant wildlife habitat.
The lustre might be tarnished
and the jury might still be out on BedZED ( Beddington Zero Energy Development), the ethos, aesthetic and commitment to both design and environmental priorities no longer dismissed as faddish and outlandish."

"First to live there. Terrible like a green house when you came home from working in the city all day. Open the windows the stench from the big farm Terrible. No central heating so electric in the winter. Water in bathroom the colour of urine. Every visitor was told after many flushes its not you it's colour of water every Monday the water was shut off. See if your boss would believe that. I had 3 floods burgled by neighbour in broad daylight the place is cursed. I want to meet Bill Dunster the architect."
