"Amazing experience at the castle. Lots of history to learn about and definitely helps that they offer the use of a audio device to dive into the history of the place.
Little cafe on site too which serves lovely coffee and cakes."

"So this is supposed to be one of the most haunted castles in the country! Great ruins and with the help of an audio guide, we were guided through each section so we could see its purpose when first built. There are also information panels dotted around. Lots to interest all ages and my children enjoyed ghost hunting. Free for English Heritage members (or renewing Cadw members) but entrance fee for everyone else. There is a cafe and toilet on site."

Elizabeth Baker

"Walking across fields from Berry Pomeroy village is by far the best way to approach the castle. A long tree lined drive opens up to reveal views of the ruins. A lovely little cafe is located by the drive (the cream tea was delicious). English Heritage look after the site and audio guides can be collected from the ticket office. Fascinating piece of Devon history and apparently England's most haunted castle. Well worth a visit."

A Glimpse into History: From Medieval Fortress to Ruined Mansion

The history of Berry Pomeroy Castle is a fascinating tale of ambition, financial ruin, and eventual decay. Originally a formidable medieval castle built by the Pomeroy family in the late 15th century, it was intended to be a powerful stronghold. However, facing bankruptcy, the family was forced to sell it to Edward Seymour, the 1st Duke of Somerset, brother to Queen Jane Seymour. TikTokInstagram
