What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Biggin Dale for its beautiful, relaxed walking along the River Dove, offering a less crowded alternative to Dovedale. The rocky terrain and potential for mud are noted, requiring good footwear. Limited mobile signal is a common point of mention.
"Beautiful place for a relaxed walk, mostly along the river, some inclines and mostly a very stoney walk (wear comfy trainers or boots in wet weather, as some parts get very muddy after rain). Took around 4.5 hours with a stop in Hartingdon cafe.
Fyi. Mobile and internet are zero all over the area.
Parking at Hartingdon on the roadside or at the car park. However, we parked alongside the road here 53.1244080, -1.8119831 (near bullet no.5 on the instructions). We'd definitely do it again."

"A good circular walk from Hartingon with caves that children enjoy exploring (but entrance only) Great Crested Newt ponds and Reed Bed sewage works"

"This is part of the Wolfscote Dale walk we take, setting off from Beresford Lane near to Beresford Dale to the North-West (a few roadside parking spots near to the wooden bridge).
We walk over the bridge from the lane and head right, over the grassy meadow continuing on the riverside path as far as Biggin Dale and it's mine entrance (a trial lead mine adit) right alongside the pathway. Take a torch if you intend exploring the short passageway. If you've parked at Hartington, you can continue on upwards and head left (West) joining Reynards Lane back to where you started for a circular walk. We head back to the car along the same path, enjoying the views from the opposite direction.
The scenery all along the River Dove is simply gorgeous, with it's deep sloping valley sides and high rocky crags. The rubble path is solid with no hills to climb unless you've a mind to clamber up one of the alternative pathways. It's possible to walk all the way along the main path via Milldale to Dovedale, around 5 miles away.
Well worth exploring if you're in the area and you fancy an alternative to relatively busy Dovedale."
