What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bishopwearmouth Cemetery is a place of historical significance and quiet reflection, appreciated for its respectful atmosphere and mature grounds. However, visitors note that maintenance could be improved, with concerns about the condition of some gravestones and general upkeep. Issues like dog control and limited parking are also mentioned, though many see its potential as a beautiful and important site.
"Defiantly need improvement in looking after the graves , as some of them are asking, to be accident when they fall. The grass cutting as well could be better, not just going around and leave grass close to them. They could show pride at craftsmen when they do work."

"😡 SHOCKING DISGRACE 😡
😡DOGS😡FLY TIPPING😡 NEEDS LIGHTING & SECURITY
BUT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

This could be 1 of the best in the country IF ONLY the Council would make the effort!
The list of issues are sadly too many to expect anything to be done, yet the difference would be massive! (This is my list in order of importance)
1) Dogs with ignorant owner's letting them run over graves even whilst ppl kneeling nxt to them😠 Disgraceful!
2) Security at gates/lighting so ppl who work all day could visit in evenings especially when nights are dark. How lovely would that be?
I for 1 would even be more than happy to help with costs.
I'm certain others with family there would do the same.
3) FLY TIPPING!?! (disgusting ignorance 😡)
& The shocking state of the fallen/broken gravestones look heartbreaking!
The potholes or rather crevasses are getting so bad there aren't many places left to dodge them!
4) Last but DEF not least is the wooden posts along the only tiny rd going into the last section left for new burials.
Due to those the cars have no room to pass & now everyone
is driving their cars RIGHT ACROSS the grassed area + ruining it all!
(except the decent few Inc myself)
And finally to the unbelievable ignorants who think this CEMETERY is a good place to play football + bring McDonald's with their children/dogs.
Go to a park, not where ppl are grieving + need peace/quiet!
Grrr😠
