"Toys Hill near Sevenoaks in Kent was the inspiration for the founding of the National Trust by Octavia Hill and two others.
There is extensive woodland here with many marked paths, some are quite challenging.
You can also join up with the paths on the outskirts of National Trusts Emmett's Gardens although you do need to scan your membership card or pay at the welcome centre if you wish to visit the garden itself.
There are some lovely views over the surrounding countryside at various points.
There are a few features you'll come across including the remains of a Victorian ram pump, a well and a bat tower plus the scant ruins of a manor house.
There is a free car park where you will find a map of the area and the marked paths, I always take a picture of these maps on my phone for reference.
At this time ( April 2025 ) the woods are carpeted with Bluebells which is beautiful to see.
The woods were filled with birdsong and with few roads in the area it is very peaceful.
Please note there are no facilities on site.
It's a great place to walk your dog but note that some of the paths cross country roads."

"Wooded hill cared for by the National Trust, with far reaching views over the weald of Kent to the Surrey Hills on a clear day.
A grand house by the name of Weardale Manor once stood where the clearing now exists, foundations of which can still be seen today. The house was built in 1906 and would have been a magnificent property with 145 rooms, but it lasted only 33 years before demolition took place. An information board provides an artist's impression of the property and explains more about its history.
There are good circular walks around the area and out to the Emmetts Garden estate, taking in the curious Bat Tower and a ram pump along the way. The paths are ideal for dog walks, though at one point there's an intersection with a country road so keep a look out for traffic.
Toys Hill itself has no facilities other than a small parking area, though Emmetts Garden offers a café and toilets, providing the ideal place to break a circular walk."

"A choice of clearly sign posted walks with signs to read about the history should you wish. The longer walks take you all round the back of Emmetts Garden which was a nice surprise - be warned, some of it is very hilly so if you have someone who may find that a challenge, there is a specially dedicated disabled route (we did not take this route so can't confirm that it is entirely hill free ... !)."
