Still active fishing villages

I'm Irish, and have spent about a decade in Dublin near Howth (a still active fishing village) and wanted to see one in Cornwall! I never was able to make it down there, when I lived in the UK. I want to avoid St. Ives, and would like to still see a village/town with an active…

The quaint little fishing village of Polperro at night…

Walked along the coast path from Looe to Polperro. Lovely trek, past the memorial and the Smugglers Inn. Few pints of Doom Bar in Polperro, followed by the drunken trek back... Bloodied heels, mild sunburn, general exhaustion. Good times.

Off to Cornwall next week - any recommendations of places to visit?

Staying just outside Looe. I've been going on holiday to Cornwall for most of my life, but always seem to visit the same spots. Are we missing some gems? I have 3 kids between 6 and 12 years old. Childhood harbour towns seem to have gone downhill and I wondered if there's…

Reviews Summary

Buller Quay Fish Market is a highly acclaimed dining spot in Looe, celebrated for its exceptional seafood and surprisingly excellent steak. Diners rave about the quality, freshness, and culinary skill on display, often calling it one of the best meals they've ever had. The intimate atmosphere and open kitchen add to its charm, though it's a small venue that requires advance booking and can be pricey.

"Came to The Fish Market on the last night of a week's stay in Looe, and ... wow ... saved the best for last. Lovely little place, limited tables and a dining room with open kitchen cooking a small menu of amazing food. The seafood and fish stew I had was one of the best meals I've ever had. My friend had the steak and said its the best steak hes ever been served. Oh and special mention to the bread and olives as an appetizer. I can't fault any of the experience. You'll need to book as it's very popular and a small dining room, but you get a great service and can watch your meal being cooked by the amazing chefs. Thoroughly recommended. Visit!"

"Great service with really friendly staff, we were really looking forward to eating here but if absolutely honest we were a little disappointed, two of us opted for dressed lobster and ended up feeling a little unwell, the lobster was precooked and vacuum packed (boil in the bag) and then warmed up but unfortunately it wasn’t ever so hot which is a cardinal sin so we left most of it. The potatoes were amazing and some of the dishes were fab but the wine was hugely overpriced and overall not what we expected."

Kirk Tree

"We ordered multiple dishes off the menu and every item was 11/10. The atmosphere was good and thriving and the views are amazing.
I have been coming to Looe annually for holidays for many years and this is hands down the best food I’ve ever had in Looe and possibly the best seafood I’ve had in my life.
I also like the personal touch of the chef bringing your meal out to you."
