Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise St Mary's Church for its welcoming volunteers, informative leaflets, and peaceful atmosphere. It's highlighted as a significant historical site, particularly for the tomb of Mary Tudor, and a delightful alternative when the nearby Cathedral is inaccessible. The church's volunteer-run nature is a key factor in its charm and the positive experiences of its guests.
"Beautiful church maintained entirely by volunteers and donations. They’ve got some nice plaques and signs that explain what you’re looking at, and of course the main attraction that I went there for was Mary Tudor’s grave. It’s quite understated in the back corner of the alter."

"I happened upon this delightful spot as I was on the National Cycle Route from the Dragonfly Hotel into the town centre. Just sitting on a bench for an hour on a sunny Saturday morning watching the world going by (very occasionally) and listening to the bells chiming each quarter was an absolute delight."

"I'd give more stars if I could! This was the best sight in Bury. When the Cathedral was closed to the public on a Saturday afternoon because of a private hire (😱😶), this amazing church was not only open, but there was nobody inside visiting! Additionally, as soon as we entered, a nice lady sitting at a desk welcomed us and kindly handed us a leaflet with the works of art to look out for (a map of the church with numbers and brief explanations). We stayed for such a long time, learnt some new things and truly enjoyed the visit."
