Reviews Summary

Visitors often praise the historic grandeur and the unique opportunity to glimpse inside the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. However, some have found event information lacking, particularly regarding timetables, and noted potential entry fees. The experience is highly dependent on attending a scheduled open day or tour.

"The 2019 open day was a good event let down by lack of information.
It may have been free in 2018, but this year entrance was £5, which we thought was a bit steep.

Our day's fun was greatly reduced by the fact that there was no timetable or any indication of what was going on when.

We planned our afternoon as much as possible but as we entered the main building to look round, at an hour and a half before closing time, as we understood it, we were told the building was closing in 5 minutes. Extremely disappointing.

The displays and food on offer were pretty typical for this sort of event, and good. Just a shame they couldn't have managed a timetable."

"I have just finished reading “Stand Up Straight: 10 Life Lessons from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst” by Major General Paul Nanson CB CBE.

This book is the first official self-improvement and leadership book from the British Army’s world-leading Sandhurst Academy.
10 simple but transformative lessons that every officer is taught during their time at the world-famous military academy.

Modern and counter-intuitive, with its lessons ranging from making your bed and ironing your shirt to achieving discipline, emotional intelligence, resilience and fast decision-making under pressure, the book draws on first-hand experiences from war as well as the leadership lessons taught at Sandhurst.

Brilliant … military rules that can change your life … Sandhurst’s precious life lessons, self-discipline, teamwork, even standing up straight, can make life run smoother, better, nobler, longer’ DAILY MAIL

‘Follow the General’s orders and fold your socks. You’ll be a better person for it’ THE TIMES

1. Stand Up Straight – The story behind the book. How can the leadership lessons learned at Sandhurst be turned into life lessons for all?

2. Serve to Lead – What makes a servant leader and why are they more effective when it comes to leading under pressure?

3. Leading in a Complex Environment – Based on experiences in combat, how leaders need to build trust, ensure resilience and empower their teams to stay a step ahead of the opposition.

4. Generating High Performance – the importance of believing in yourself, your team and those that lead you.

5. Leading Change – how military leadership can be applied to a non-military problem.
