What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about Coombe Abbey's unique historical atmosphere and immersive experiences like the Medieval Banquet. The beautiful parkland and charming hotel rooms are frequently praised, though some minor service points like continental breakfast variety and room phone functionality were noted. Overall, it's considered an unforgettable stay that blends history with comfort.
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coombe Abbey Hotel, especially the Medieval Banquet.
The hotel is beautiful, with traditional architecture, arches, and stone walls that are truly breathtaking. We booked The Lucy bedchamber and it had the “wow” factor - an extra king-size bed, large walk-in shower, and standalone bathtub. We loved the furniture too, which really added to the immersion.
Breakfast had a good selection of tasty hot food, though the continental spread was small and there was only one machine for hot water and coffee for the whole restaurant.
The Banquet was a lot of fun, with a four-course meal and great stage entertainment. The actors were engaging, played fun songs, and got the audience involved. Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys a medieval theme!
A few small points of feedback: the phone in our room didn’t work (and yes, it was plugged in). A wider range of continental items, especially pastries, would be nice, possibly also consider adding Nutella to the preserves? At the banquet, themed tableware for all tables would help the atmosphere (our table had standard white bowls), same with the jugs of beer - we were expecting wooden-style.
It would also be a nice touch if the after-meal disco started with medieval-style music for the first 30 minutes.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return."

"Unbelievable experience! Unlike any hotel we've stayed at before. By far the oldest building we've slept in; it felt like we stepped back in time several hundred years. We liked that they have maintained some period decor, especially in the common areas, while providing more common amenities in the rooms and dining area. Definitely one of the highlights of our UK trip, and we would 100% try to find a way to stay here again."

"I visited on a Heritage Open Day event. We were shown round by two very entertaining 'monks' who explained the place with an excellent mixture of information and humour. It has a long and complex history and there are elements of architecture from many centuries from the 12th to 21st. Highlights for me were the Chapter House door and the big dining room with beautiful decorated plaster ceiling. At the end of the tour we were given a cream tea. A really enjoyable afternoon. I was inspired to come and stay in the hotel."
