What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Criffel for its spectacular panoramic views, especially on clear days, and the rewarding, albeit steep, hike. The well-maintained path and the initial woodland section with waterfalls are also frequently highlighted as positives. Some find the climb very challenging, and caution is advised regarding slippery conditions and potential flies at the summit.
"This is a great walk to do on a clear day. We walked from Ardwall Farm and the new path means that you are unlikely to get slowed down by boggy conditions that you may see in some areas.
However, just because there is a path does not mean it is easy and the hill seems to get steeper as you get toward the top. The ascent took us about 50 mins but I would suggest 90 to be average based on those we passed on the way up.
The views are well worth it, with near panoramic views right across the Solway coastline."

"Fabulous walk, very steep but the path makes it extremely clear to walk up and keep to route. Beautiful views, an hours walk up to the top. Park at ardwell farm car park..honesty box in operation"

"Great short walk. Steep but the views are spectacular on a clear day. Can easily see the Isle of Man and even Ireland if its very clear. Now the path is there it's not so boggy."
