What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Criterion Theatre for its consistently good productions and the intimate, welcoming atmosphere. The friendly front-of-house and bar staff, along with reasonable refreshment prices, add to the positive experience. However, some find the seating uncomfortable and the theatre can become warm during performances, with limited restroom facilities noted.
"Fabulous little theatre. The production was amazing and the front of house efficient, well organised and welcoming. Only downside is the parking if you have mobility issues. Its fine if you are ok walking, plenty of road spaces in surrounding area."
Heather Morton
"Small little local theatre. Parked in the small car park, was greeted by a warm smile, and staff were lovely and welcoming. Grabbed a drink at the bar, who had a good selection, and we found a seat in the bar. The theatre itself allows you great views, and I think it holds 100 max. We watched a fabulous show, could not fault the actors, could see everything clearly, hear everything perfectly. We attended on a warm evening and the theatre became stuffy and warm. I found the seats uncomfortable, not much room to shuffle in your seat, I found my eyes shutting due to the warmth and lack of being able to stretch, which was a shame as I say the show was brilliant. Intermission and I queued for the toilet, only 2 ladies toilets. I will be going back again, the shows that are on are great, the building is old and they can not done much about that just next time I will take a cushion."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Criterion. The front of house staff were friendly and quickly verified our tickets online. The bar staff were great and the prices more than reasonable. The show itself, Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, expertly delivered by the cast and crew. Our only complaint was the temperature in the theatre. Perhaps the heat was coming from Mrs Lovett's pie oven! We look forward to our next visit."
