What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Dalden Tower is appreciated as a tranquil historical gem with lovely surrounding woodlands and footpaths. However, visitors note issues with litter and vandalism, and the limited public access to the tower itself is a common point of disappointment. Community efforts are underway to address these concerns.
"A beautifully tranquil place in the little village of Dalton le Dale, Dalden Tower is a medieval fortified manor house, it dates back to at least 1375 when the Escolland family occupied it who changed their name to Dalden, giving the name to the tower, it later changed hands with the Bowes family through marriage who occupied the tower for the next two centuries before being passed on the Collingwood's, Millbankes and the Londonderry's, it has been derelict since the early 1700's.
Dalden Tower is a grade 2 listed structure and is a scheduled ancient monument."

"Lovely little gem of a place/area to walk around however it's spoilt somewhat, by the huge amount of litter ( beer cans /bottle cigarette packets etc)! The lovely community around Seaham requlary meet up to do litter picks, but sadly, due to gangs of youths mainly; litter & vandalism returns. Would love to see kids getting involved more to maintain & look after this otherwise beautiful spot .."

"Interesting ruins, shame the access gates are locked.
