Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise St. Mary's Church Deerhurst for its exceptional Anglo-Saxon architecture and its beautiful, peaceful location. Many highlight the rare historical features like the font and sculptures as significant draws, offering a profound connection to the past. While the church is a treasure, some may find it a smaller site, best enjoyed as part of a broader exploration of the area.

"St Mary, Deerhurst, Gloucestershire

Deerhurst’s other Saxon church. At first sight a medieval church, but there is much herringbone masonry on closer examination. Inside the west wall and the east end of the north aisle show triangular and round headed Saxon windows, doors and masonry. There was an apse now derelict but with a large blocked arch at the east end of the church. There are several pieces of Saxon sculpture in the tower base and the ruined apse. The font is one of the finest Saxon examples. Additionally, the chancel with its benches around three sides of the communion table is an interesting example of a 17th century protestant layout."
