Dunrobin Castle has been home to the Earls and later, Dukes of Sutherland since the early 1300s. It is the most northerly of Scotland’s great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. As holders of one of just seven medieval earldoms in Scotland, the Sutherlands were part of the ruling elite, intermarrying with the Royal Family. The 5th Earl married Princess Margaret, daugh...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Dunrobin Castle for its spectacular architecture and beautiful, well-maintained gardens, often describing it as a fairytale experience. The falconry displays and the castle's museum are frequently highlighted as enjoyable and educational aspects of the visit. While generally positive, some guests noted that interior rooms were less extravagant than expected and that the falconry show's acoustics could be improved.

"A stunning castle. The gentleman at the castle passionately explained its history to us and even let us take a photo of a castle photo taken in the early1800s. If we had had the energy to go down to the garden, we could have seen the castle from the other side for an amazing view."

Hanna Jun

"This was one of the most beautiful castles that we went into. It was completely furnished and had attendance in rooms that you can ask questions. Was really a nice morning spent. On the first floor was a snack area where you can get coffee tea or to nibble on after the tour was over."

John Knowles

"Wow! Stunning castle and grounds. We were lucky to visit on a gorgeous sunny day. We booked in advance & although it was busy it was still easy to walk around at our own pace. It is vast though & a lot of steps but plenty of places to stop & sit. The museum is a must see & so unusual! Another highlight to the visit. We did sit & wait for the falconry show but as it was hot we sat in the shade under the trees. Unfortunately the guy did not have a microphone so you could not hear what he was saying & his performance was aimed more at the people sat on the benches at the top of the lawn. I think they need to review that as we weren’t the only people sat down the side in the shade & watched for a while then left. We did get to see the birds as they were on perches on the bottom of the display lawn.
All in all staff are lovely & the cafe had good choice of food & drinks at a reasonable price. Handled very well with the amount of people they were serving.
Definitely worth a visit!"
