What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Enigma Fountain for its exceptionally pure and refreshing spring water, a local treasure collected for decades. While the site itself is a simple stone trough and access can be tricky, the quality of the water and the scenic walking opportunities in the Malvern Hills are highly valued. Some note a lack of upkeep and a safety warning about the water, though many locals disregard it.
"Found out that there are fresh water springs all around Malvern hills and this one is used by folks to fill their containers with fresh spring water. We had the water after a brisk walk. So refreshing and free compared to wasteful water in plastic bottles. Tastes fantastic."

"Brilliant clean water that keeps for up to 6 months and more. Even though you'll drink your water well before 6 months.
I did some time tests on the water and have never had any bad experience with the water.
The Spring water is so clean even after a storm.
Been collecting water for over 2 years now.
And I have got to talk to many locals who have been drinking the water over 20 years and even 30 years plus without any health issues.
The water is so clean and refreshing.
There is a safety notice up on the bank warning you to boil the water.
You do not need to boil the water it keeps for ages and is so clean to drink.
But you can test it yourself if you want too.
Cracking area to enjoy walking and nature and the amazing views.
Would I recommend a visit 100% yes.
The turning into the the lane is very tight and once you turn off the main road, you have arrived.
My first visit I missed the Spring expecting some thing bigger..but what you see is a solid stone troff old school style.
The Spring as never stopped running even though it will go to a trickle in drouts. Beautiful tasty water as it should be. Pure clean water. Thanks to the local Associations for looking after all the local springs and fountains."

"Shame that it looks unkempt.
A sign says that the water is potentially harmful, but that has probably been put up by a disgruntled neighbour to put people off from parking near their properties... The spring has been there a whole lot longer than any local person, if it is harmful then the Council really should be doing more to find out where it is coming from."

The Enigma of the Water: Purity and Perception
However, a safety notice at the site advises boiling the water, suggesting potential contamination. This warning is often viewed with skepticism by long-time users, who believe it may have been placed by disgruntled neighbors to deter visitors. While some individuals choose to add colloidal silver as an extra precaution, the general sentiment among those who frequent the fountain is that the water is naturally pure and safe. This creates an 'enigma' around the water's true safety, balancing official warnings with decades of positive user experience.
Navigating the Approach: Access and First Impressions
First impressions can vary. While the pure water is a major draw, some visitors note that the area can appear 'unkempt.' This contrasts with the appreciation for the 'local Associations for looking after all the local springs and fountains.' The overall experience is one of discovering a hidden gem, where the value lies not in grand architecture but in the simple, pure resource it provides and the surrounding natural beauty.
