Reviews Summary

Visitors praise GoMA for its free admission, striking architecture, and the iconic Duke of Wellington statue. While the modern art collection is appreciated for its thought-provoking nature and focus on local artists, some find it hit-or-miss. The basement library and cafe offer a pleasant respite, though the building's layout can require some navigation.

"When you visit Glasgow, you won’t miss the Gallery of Modern Art. Not only is the unique building a must-see, but the statue of the Duke of Wellington outside also perfectly captures the Glaswegian sense of humour.

The museum itself is relatively small, focusing on modern art rather than historic pieces. However, the interior is filled with interesting works that showcase local artists. I highly recommend starting from the top floor and working your way down. You can easily spend two hours exploring everything within the gallery.

The museum also has a gift shop and is free to visit. While donations are appreciated to maintain the facility, they’re not mandatory. Additionally, the basement serves as a local library and coffee shop.

Overall, I highly recommend visiting this museum and being open-minded. Even if the art doesn’t suit your taste, take the time to understand why the museum chose to display those works."

"It is a large building in the centre of Glasgow and it has a strange layout that requires a bit of navigation to get round. It is over several floors but there is a lift that opens at either end depending on the floor you want to exit. Modern art is always hit or miss. I enjoyed some exhibits more than others. Cafe and library in the basement, shop opposite entry which sells many unique items, so worth a look."

Joseph Kincaid

"Highlight of my day was wandering around this lovely museum! The exhibits aren't huge but have very cool, eclectic pieces. I felt intrigued and reflective and inspired, which is what one would hope for from a museum visit. There's also a library downstairs so I had a great time just chilling there reading. All in all fabulous experience, so nice to exist somewhere and not feel like your main purpose is to spend money (disclaimer I did buy a postcard for £1)."
