What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Grafham Water for its beautiful scenery, extensive walking and cycling paths, and family-friendly amenities like the playground. It's seen as a peaceful escape with good opportunities for wildlife spotting. However, some find the parking fees steep and certain walking sections less engaging.
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ 4/5 — A Peaceful Lincolnshire Gem
I recently walked the Grantham Water Circular, and it turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. The route is easy to follow (thanks to AllTrails’ map), and it offers a nice mix of open countryside, quiet lanes, and views over the lake. It’s not a mountain hike by any means, but it’s perfect if you’re after a peaceful few hours outdoors without too much effort.
The trail surface is mostly well-kept, though a few spots can get muddy after rain, so I’d recommend sturdy shoes or boots. The wildlife around the water is lovely — ducks, swans, and the occasional heron if you’re lucky. It’s also a good walk for dogs, with plenty of open space to roam.
What I liked most was how tranquil it felt. Even on a weekend, it wasn’t crowded, and there were several quiet moments where it was just birdsong and the wind across the water. The views near the reservoir are especially relaxing — great spot for a short picnic or just a breather.
If you’re looking for something easy to moderate, family-friendly, and scenic without being strenuous, the Grantham Water Circular is definitely worth adding to your list."

"Honestly a bit boring walking on the side from visitor centre to Mander Park.
Mostly dam wall to walk alongside, plus a small patch of woods and then out alongside the road to get back back in.
£12 for 6 hours (max for all day) parking is crazy for what there was to see/do IMO and the amount of space they have.
We'll perhaps give it another go sometime and go the other way around to see if that's any more interesting."
