Malvern Hills Question: is it worth a 1.5 hour drive to get to them?
I’m currently staying in Shropshire, I’ve done most of the recommended walks in The Shropshire hills and I’ve been popping over to Powys too which has been great. The Malvern are in the general area BUT my worry is that I’m a bit spoilt both by this trip and the fact that my…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Great Malvern Railway Station is appreciated for its historic Victorian Gothic architecture and picturesque setting. However, many visitors are disappointed by the frequent closure of essential facilities like toilets, ticket offices, and cafes, even during weekdays. The station's limited accessibility and sparse public transport links also pose challenges for some travelers.
"Waterloo Station in London has twenty-four platforms, exactly twenty-two more than Great Malvern. Don't visit this station if you need a toilet out of office hours, you'll find it locked away however you can stare through a window at it whilst crossing your legs. It's an ideal place for muggers to gather as it's a ten minute walk away from town. It's a bit like the station in Chigley or Camberwick Green. Best to avoid unless you're catching a train there."

"What a disappointing train station. It’s about 10 minutes walk from town centre for fast walkers. But then you arrive and everything else s closed. I couldn’t even purchase water. The AgeUk was closed, waiting room, ticket office and cafe all closed at 11:46 when I arrived and 13:43 when I was leaving Malvern. There’s no bus to the station and I felt so sorry for the mum with a pushchair and a baby strapped to her. I walked a few yards behind her from the town centre. She purchased a ticket but couldn’t use the the underground walkway to get to platform 2 as there was no lift and left the station. This is not a modern station for those with pushchairs, small children, the disabled and elderly, who may find it difficult to get to Platform 2 for trains towards Hereford.
One of three men who got off train heading to London, returned to look at the board about the history of the station. I remembered he spoke a language I didn’t recognise. I became aware he was watching me. The train to London was still in the station. The man then carefully checked the waiting room through the window. I felt uncomfortable after he went to the exit and went to the exit where I found the man and the other two men acting suspiciously and watching the train. By now I felt very vulnerable in the unmanned station as the only passenger on the platform.
I pressed button in London bound train even though I was waiting for Birmingham train. Fortunately the door opened and I got on and went to toilet where I had panic attack. If I didn’t get on the train I’m certain the three men would have done something to me as I didn’t see any cameras in the station. I got off at the next station, Malvern Link where there were a few people and I could get train for London. It was while I was sitting in the waiting room that I noticed my iPhone 14 was missing. I’d just purchased it but am so thankful not to come to any harm I didn’t worry about it.
I was viewing a home in Malvern but because there are no buses to the unnamed station I wouldn’t live in this area. Women need to be very careful at unmanned stations, especially when there are no cameras. Looking at Google maps I didn’t realise it’s a ten minute isolated walk from the isolated station to get into the town centre. Be alert and don’t get distracted by your phone. Thankfully although I had my phone in my hand I was being observant. Just be careful especially when it’s not rush hour. Ignore comments about quaint beautiful train below and be cautious!"

"Lovely looking station but EVERYTHING is SHUT even the TOILETS on a weekday at 10am. I had to walk 10 minutes to the tennis club to use their facilities as my train was cancelled. It's hard to call this a station more like a stop."
