Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Halifax Minster for its rich history, impressive architecture, and the unique connection to Anne Lister. The friendly and knowledgeable staff, along with the opportunity to attend services or events, are frequently highlighted as positive aspects. Some note the interior can be a bit dark, but the overall experience is described as rewarding and special.

"This was a really rewarding experience! This was one of the churches that we thought we could find some evidence of my wife's Whitaker side of the family, and lo and behold we actually found a commemorative plaque with their names! Very cool. The church itself is a bit on the dark side, probably evidence of the climate or how it's been used in the past.

I loved to see how wheelchair accessible the caretakers made it, being creative in their use of portable and permanent ramps. While we didn't stay long, we were able to get a nice history of the place, along with a shout out to the Whitaker plaque from the friendly staff."

"A lovely Minster in Halifax. There was a special group of visitors Lord and Lady Mayor.
The staff were so friendly and they make a great brew. The homemade scones went down a treat, thank you.
The Minster itself was a beautiful building.
A gift shop is also well stocked."

"I was the driver at the wedding so unfortunately I never got the chance to go inside. I did however get the chance to have a good walk round the outside of the 15th century church, although there has been a place of worship here since 1120. It's exterior is fabulous and the stonework intricate although the industrial past of Halifax has done a lot of damage to the stonework through soot and chemical attack. Still it is beautiful with its adjoining building Causey Hall which was originally the parish school. Just by the front entrance to the Minster stands the 'Ring O Bells' public house, where on the side elevation there is a mural of Anne Lister, AKA Gentleman Jack which i have also included"
