What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the beautiful natural setting and the invigorating wild swimming experience at Hampstead Heath Ponds. The well-managed numbers and lifeguards add to the appeal. However, some find the cold water challenging, and the booking system and time limits can feel restrictive for a spontaneous visit.
"This is a pond in Hampstead Heath where you can swim year round. You need tickets in advance, as in the summer the number is tickets sells out fast.
Br forewarned. The water is 55 degrees F (which is 12.7 degrees centigrade). That is cold. The bottom is silt, and the water is deep. You need to be able to swim, or you need to use a flotation device. Of course, you are surrounded by greenery, and because of it, the swimming is relatively private.
However, people clearly love to swim here. My daughter loved it as did my son-in-law. This is not for everyone, for sure.
No children are allowed. nd you need to get your tickets in advance in the summer."

"Swimming here is a real pleasure. The setting is beautiful and being outdoors among the trees adds something special. Numbers are well managed so it never feels crowded, and it’s a rare chance to swim alongside waterbirds in such a peaceful space.
The facilities are straightforward and functional, which makes getting in and out of the water easy. The water itself is clean and well maintained. It’s a great place to swim, with a calm atmosphere that encourages focus and steady pace."

"Really nice way to get a swim in. Only thing that i didnt like was that people were sitting in the floating rings which i didnt mind when it was a kid but i dont know why they dont tell people to get off especially after 10 minutes. Just makes me feel unsafe that i dont have a nearby ring to grab. They need to have a rule against this or add more rings"
