What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Harnham Gate is a small, historic medieval entrance to Salisbury Cathedral's Close, appreciated for its charm and the picturesque street it leads to. While not a major landmark, it offers a delightful sense of stepping back in time for history enthusiasts. Drivers should be aware of the strict one-way system and tire-damaging spikes.
"Harnham Gate is one of the smaller medieval entrances into Salisbury Cathedral’s close. It’s not especially remarkable unless you’re a bit of a history enthusiast, but it does lead onto a charming little residential street that’s definitely worth a quick photo. Wandering through gives you that nice sense of stepping back in time, which is really the charm of the area.
One practical note: the gate is strictly one-way. The road surface bristles with some very unfriendly-looking spikes that will happily shred your tyres if you attempt to go the wrong way. So if you’re heading for the cathedral car park, don’t be tempted. Use the High Street Gate instead."
