What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hatherley Park is a beloved local green space, praised for its playgrounds, pond, and suitability for dog walking and family outings. While some visitors note the absence of permanent toilet facilities and the intermittent nature of on-site refreshments, the park's natural charm and free access make it a highly valued community asset for outdoor recreation and relaxation.
"When Donald Campbell was looking for suitable venues to break the world water speed record in the early fifties he considered using the lake in Hatherley Park. He had read in 'What's on in Cheltenham this week' that the lake was twenty eight miles long. This was a misprint as the lake barely extended to twenty eight yards. However he took his Bluebird craft for a trial run and managed to reach a speed of 0.027 miles per hour before crashing into the edge of the lake. No ducks were injured at the time. Currently the lake smells like a Turkish wrestler's jockstrap. I would say it's only suitable for visiting if you're suffering from anosmia. It's okay, however, for taking your dog walkies. "My dog's got no nose". "How does he smell?". "Terrible". (The old ones are not necessarily the best.)"

"This is a beautiful place to let the children and dogs run about and play. There's even a pop up coffee shack selling decent coffee for the adults to chillax and chat. Well worth a visit."

"I am absolutely in love with this park. We have so many great memories here and we keep coming every time we get the chance. My dog is the most happy when we take him to Hatherley Park. I feel this is the best escape if you want to enjoy a piece of nature. There is plenty of picnic area, playground for kids, lots of benches to rest. There is a pond as well, but I can't really take my dog too close, because he wants to jump into the water and chase the ducks. Many times, there are football games, which Monty likes to watch. A small coffee shop if you want a hot drink is also available. This was my lockdown escape and I will never forget those moments with clear skies and lots of sunshine."
