Visitors consistently praise the Hatton Gallery for its free admission and impressive collection, particularly highlighting the student exhibitions as a standout feature. While some find certain contemporary exhibits abstract, the gallery is generally lauded as a light, airy, and friendly space offering educational value and a pleasant cultural escape within the city.
"We visited the final year Newcastle university fine art student exhibition and were really impressed with the presentation and quality of work. This was really one of the best displays of art we have seen anywhere and we visited multiple times just to see all of it.
One of the best galleries we have visited and looking forward to visiting future exhibitions."

"Fab visit to the Hatton Gallery today. So impressed with the Free exhibitions including Sustainable Clay. The gallery is light and airy with items on show and videos so interesting. The entrance staff were extremely friendly and helpful too. I would definitely recommend a visit when in this area of Newcastle 😁 x"
Sue Bell
"The current seasonal exhibit is a bit disappointing. The very abstract industrial look of art. The rest of the art is not that impressive either. Some handmade artworks mostly focus on demonstrating the shape of the material, the paintings are just too obscure. However, it is still a nice and neat small gallery (only one floor, take stairs or elevator) to walk around that is connected to the campus."
