Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Howden Reservoir for its breathtaking natural beauty and the impressive engineering of its dam. The opportunity for long walks and cycling routes through the Upper Derwent Valley is a major draw, especially during the vibrant autumn months. Some find the limited facilities and the need for a full day to explore the entire circuit to be minor drawbacks.

"I visit the Peak District reservoirs quite often. There's quite a few of them. Not sure if I've been to them all. Howden Reservoir is the upper Reservoir of the 3 Derwent Valley reservoirs, the other two being Derwent and Ladybower. Monday to Friday you can drive quite far up, along the side of the water but eventually you come to a gate and from there you have to leave the car behind. With a blue badge you can use the road on a weekend too. The whole area is simply breathtaking no matter what the season. I prefer mid Autumn when all the colours from the trees really stand out especially on a bright sunny day. If you want to walk right round all three reservoirs it'll take you a good day. I'd recommend visiting this naturally beautiful area to everyone."
