What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise St. James the Great Church for its historical significance and beautiful architecture. The spacious interior, impressive tower, and detailed carvings are frequently highlighted as memorable features. While generally well-maintained, some may find the historical nature of the church to be its primary draw rather than modern amenities.
"The current (blue covered) guide is based on Revd Greener's 1950's guide - some pictures are different - and an excellent guide to the church it is. There is a small car park (and toilet) right by the church. The church dates to the 15th century and is large and spacious inside. The tower is an impressive 90 feet high. You'll find no less than 17 stained glass windows including the impressive East Window. The Pews are the original 16th century ones and there are over 150 bench ends and carved panels - two date from 1380 and some were replaced with copies in the Victorian Restoration. Well worth stopping to explore this church."
