What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the delightful ferry experience and the historical charm of Loch Leven Castle Island. The scenic views and opportunities for wildlife spotting are major draws. However, some recent visitors have noted issues with ferry availability and the absence of on-site dining facilities, which were present in previous years.
"I had the most delightful experience taking the ferry over to Castle Island. You absolutely want to reserve online, as it is a small passenger boat. The boat is flat bottom and comfortable, the crew are helpful and informative, and the ride was easy, and scenic! Once ashore, the castle ruin is fun to explore but the wee island and huge trees are just stunning and the views spectacular. Such a fun day out."

"A lovely experience. The ferry team is very approachable and helpful. Everything ran on time, and the instructions were clear. They gave us a bit of history on the castle and island and left us to wander. The castle ruin is well maintained and has a lot of information around it. The island is also a great place for birds with several pheasants, swans, and swallows wandering around. We really enjoyed the tour and the trip back to the lochside afterwards. Definitely a trip I'd recommend!"

"Got told no spaces to go on the boat, watched several empty boats with about 2 passengers, going back n forth! Such a shame as this was a return visit from 2017, it was such a good place then, very disappointed this time. Also no restraunt or cafe now."
