Planning Your Visit

Timing is Everything

Beat the crowds by visiting on weekdays, especially outside of school holidays. The gardens are a major draw, so aim for mornings or late afternoons for a more serene experience. Check for special events like car meets or art festivals, which can add to the atmosphere but also increase visitor numbers.

Hall vs. Gardens

Decide if you're visiting for the historic interiors or the expansive gardens. While the hall offers a glimpse into centuries of history, the gardens are a sprawling wonderland with unique features like the 'Bog Room' and the famous garden gnome. Consider an annual pass if you plan multiple visits, especially if you're a local.

Parking is easy, but the exit road can be challenging.

"Just visited garden and tea room. Very nice coffee served with a smile. The gardens are lovely although like everywhere suffering from the drought. The Bog Room is an eye opener and the cutting garden has great swathes of planting, yes a bit dried out but still effective. A peaceful place."

Helen Akitt-Heatley

"Enjoyed the Quilting and Sewing Show at Lamport Hall. Was well organised and lovely to dip in and out of the indoor and outdoor spaces, especially on such a lovely day.

Not sure the layout would accommodate people with mobility scooters or wheelchairs though as most spaces were quite cramped and tricky to get around.

Parking was very easy and near to the venue with very efficient stewards staffing the area, however the exit road was more suitable for off road vehicles 😱"

Marian Anderson

"On our day of visit, the hall wasn’t open, but the gardens were, and I was pleasantly surprised, the gardens are fantastic, so many different varieties of flowers and plants to see, there are hidden gardens you can easily miss, if you don’t explore. Definitely worth visiting for the gardens alone, and I must say the Stables cafe was brilliant, friendly staff and good food."
